Brigadier General Anthony Mastalir

Commander, U.S. Space Forces Indo-Pacific

Anthony J. Mastalir earned his commission as a graduate of the Northwestern University Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps. He earned a master of organizational management from George Washington University and a master of national security and strategic studies from the Naval War College. He availed himself of multiple educational opportunities within the military.

He served as a flight director, missile combat crew commander, deputy chief of staff of air and space operations, and flight commander of the 4th space control squadron. He then served as chief in the Headquarters Air Force Space Command and commander of the 595th Operations Support Squadron, then a Deputy Commander of the 595th Space Group. He has held chief and directorate positions in the Pentagon, Air Force, and Space Force.

Prior to General Mastalir’s current position, he served as Special Assistant to the Commander in the Combined Force Space Component Command of the U.S. Space Command. He became Commander of the U.S. Space Forces Indo-Pacific, Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii, in November 2022.

Space Force Brigadier General Anthony Mastalir, Commander of the U.S. Space Forces Indo-Pacific, spoke about the importance of maintaining allied partnerships in the region.

On rules-based order and deterrence of adversaries, General Mastalir said, “Demonstrating on a daily basis with your allies and partners that you’re prepared to fight and win a war, should you need to, is really the ultimate way to deter a war; so that’s really important.”

General Masatlir addressed the varied engagement of the U.S. space operations with allies, saying, “The interesting thing about Space Force [and] Space Command in terms of military operations is our partners and allies are in different places in their own journey; and we can engage with those partners where they’re at, and really kind of bring them along.”
